This beautiful and dramatic piece was created from an image of a dew covered rose from the stock photo site, Pixabay.com. The image was a picture of light pastels on a soft blurred background. Using a technique I call, texture painting, in Photoshop, 'The Art of the Rose' was born.
In painting the term texture is used to describe the process of laying down thick brush-fulls of paint to bring about a heavily textured surface of raised brush strokes. In Photoshop, one uses layers of images of painted surfaces, old paper, tree bark, rock, concrete, anything at all really, to create a textured look to an image and to alter it's colour and lighting. In effect creating a composite image that takes the message of the piece in other directions.
This piece looks extraordinary printed on Metallic paper, beautiful as a textured canvas.
Fill your bowl with roses: the bowl, too, have of crystal.
Sit at the western window. Take the sun
Between your hands like a ball of flaming crystal,
Poise it to let it fall, but hold it still,
And meditate on the beauty of your existence;
The beauty of this, that you exist at all.
From the poem Chiaroscuro: Rose by Conrad Potter Aiken
