Digital cameras are a modern miracle for the amateur and professional photographer. You can look at your image immediately, set it to take a bracket of photos, take a dozen images to make sure at least one is going to be the image you wanted. The only trouble is, that digital cameras are great at capturing what you point them at, but the images can come out a little flat looking. The colours are not as bright as you remember them, the shadows seem to have taken over.
You've taken a great shot of your horse, his ears are forward, legs in a great position to show off his body and right in the middle of the image is a glaring orange cone or a great big telephone pole with an assortment of wires. This is where the services of a skilled 'Digital Photo Retoucher' come in.
With the right tools a Photo Retoucher can restore your digital image to the scene you wanted to capture. JaniceO uses the world's most popular image editing software, Adobe™ Photoshop CC to bring back the colours, lighten the shadows, brighten the highlights, remove distracting objects, camera noise, blemishes and turn your good image into a work of art.
Basic Image Retouching
Here is a beautiful capture of an Arabian gelding and his handler at a horse show. It was taken by Sharon Meyers Photography, on a high end Nikon camera. The horse is attentive, happy, ears forward, gently curved toward his handler, showing his lovely throat latch, sweeping curve of neck and well set shoulder. The background is nicley blurred to draw the viewers eye to the horse and handler. Unfortunately, the background itself was not in control of the photographer and there, right in the middle is a bright, orange, highly distracting orange cone. The big pole and attached sign doesn't contribute much either.
Definitely a job for the Digital Photo Retoucher. Fortunately, Adobe Photoshop™ provides the retoucher with a great array of tools. In this case, the Clone tool took care of the cone and a combination of Clone Tool and Spot Healing Brush took care of the post and the wires drooping across the trees. Then it a couple of Curves Adjustment layers, a Levels Layer were used to add a little contrast and highlight the colours in the image. A little Sharpen tool to bring out the features, like eyes, halter, facial expressions, hair. The shape and features of horse and handler were not altered. Correcting the image lighting allows the natural features to shine through.
Distractions gone, colour restored to what the photographer was capturing and the client has a great image for the wall, album or wallet to remember a fun day out.
Advanced Services
JaniceO can take the Image editing a little further and completely change the background of a digital image. Here is the image above with a new sky and background setting which opens up the image and still retains the focus on horse and handler.
Here, the field behind the track has replaced the cars and a new sky has been blended in to replace the dark trees. The lighting has been altered on both the foreground and the new background to make them appear as though this was an original capture.
